THE HERONS IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA
Gathering Place, a brand new riverfront park in Tulsa, Oklahoma is an exciting green space designed by the world-renowned landscape architects MVVA. The project of building the park was extensive and ambitious with a long list of exciting features - among other a skate park, a boathouse, a digital sensory garden and a reading tree.
MONSTRUM was asked to design a playground with focus on the creatures around the river, to spark children's curiosity and challenge their motor skills - and also cater for children with disabilities.

We wanted to complement the Gathering Place with a playground that feels part of the green surroundings yet stands out with vibrant colors and an untraditional, eye-catching design. It's a place for children and adults to learn about the river that passes through the city.
THE PIPEFISH IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
THE TWISTS AND TURNS OF THE PIPEFISH
Hudson River Park is the longest riverfront park in the United States, which has transformed the urban landscape of Manhattan’s west side into a beloved, urban recreational area. Attracting 17 million visitors each year, the park offers many activities for locals and tourists. The Chelsea Waterside Park inside of Hudson River Park underwent extensive renovation in 2016 and MONSTRUM was asked to design an iconic playground interpreting the life of the river.
The playground’s concept is inspired by the fauna of the Hudson River. The imaginative underwater universe is designed to inspire the kids to climb, balance, swing and slide.
The centrepiece of the playground design is the peculiar pipefish, which is an odd mix between a seahorse and an eel. The pipefish’s playful and charming expression adds personality to the playground and invites people of all ages to come closer and explore the atypical construction.

The MONSTRUM playground at Christie Park in San Francisco is inspired by this fascinating creatures. Take a look at the 12-meter-long humpback whale and the rest of the playground.
