THE HERONS IN TULSA, OKLAHOMO
Gathering Place, a brand new riverfront park in Tulsa, Oklahoma is an exciting green space designed by the world-renowned landscape architect MVVA. The project of building the park was extensive and ambitious with a long list of exciting features - among other a scate park, a boathouse, a digital sensory garden and a reading tree.
MONSTRUM was asked to design a playground with a focus on the creatures around the river, to inspire the children's curiosity and challenge their motor skills - and also target kids with disabilities.

We wanted to complement the Gathering Place with a playground design well integrated in the new surrounding green area and with a wow effect of beautiful colors and untraditional design. It is a place for kids and adults to learn about the river that is passing through the city.
THE PIPEFISH IN NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK
THE TWIST AND TURN OF THE PIPEFISH
Hudson River Park is the longest riverfront park in the United States, which has transformed the urban landscape of Manhattan’s West side into a beloved, urban recreational area. Attracting 17 million visits each year, the Park offers many activities for locals and tourists. The Chelsea Waterside Park inside of the Hudson River Park underwent extensive renovation in 2016 and MONSTRUM was asked to design an iconic playground interpreting the life from the river.
The concept of the playground is based on the fauna of the Hudson River. The imaginative underwater universe is designed to inspire the kids to climb, balance, swing and slide.
The main object of the playground design is the odd pipefish, which is a peculiar mix between a seahorse and an eel. The pipefish’s playful and charming expression adds personality to the playground and invites people of all ages to come closer and explore the atypical construction.

THE HUMPBACK WHALE IN EMERYVILLE, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
THE HUMPBACK WHALE AND THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA
The humpback whales have a special connection to the city of San Francisco as they often venture into the San Fransisco Bay and are sighted jumping up the water and sprouting high in the air. The MONSTRUM playground at Christie Park in San Francisco is inspired by this fascinating creatures. Take a look at the 12 meter humpback whale and the rest of the playground.
The 12 m long humpback whale offers many exciting play features. The whale is climbable on both sides, and the tail is likewise designed with handles to climb across. The whale can be entered through several entrances, of which the mouth is a fascinating option. With its barders made out of rope, it can be a tricky and mysterious experience.
