The fortress of Koldinghus turned 750 years old in 2018 and to celebrate this, the city council hired MONSTRUM to create a playground for the historic site. The playground is part of the museum's playpark which aims to bring more families and kids to the site.
The design is a smaller version of the beautiful old building. Situated on a small island, just like the real fortress, the playground looks strikingly similar and is a fascinating sight for both kids and adults.
The highest point of the fortress is the tower, which is 4 meters tall. The kids can crawl up the staggered levels to reach the top and take the slide down again.
There are many ways to enter the fortress. The gate is always open but why not storm the fortress by climbing the walls like a soldier at battle or sneak your way in through the back by using the secret entrances?
COMBINING HISTORY AND PLAY
Koldinghus is a royal Danish fortress in the town of Kolding on the south-central part of Jutland. It was founded in the 13th century and was later expanded and has served as both a fortress, royal residency, ruin, museum, and the location of numerous war-time negotiations.
Today, the fortress functions as a museum containing collections of furniture spanning from the 16th century to the present, Roman and gothic church culture, historic Danish paintings and thematic exhibitions.
A bookcase can be used to store books with fairytales and important information. But it can also be used to climb up to the secret attic.
