Childrens Railway Station
The train is about to enter on the platform in front of the old building at Odense Station. The signal changes and the train starts to move. Courageous children can go balance on rails, but watch out for the train! Inside the station the travellers are waiting for the trains to come, and in the ticket office can they buy tickets to distant exotic destinations. The signal is changing and the big train gets started. The engine roars, and the train will notify passengers of the train’s arrival at Odense. Inside the train you have a view across the railway and from here you can give and receive messages to the ticket kiosk, control tower, and the passengers in the carriage behind the train, through the tubephone.
The engine compartment of the train is filled with machine parts and pipes, so you have to squeeze through. If you are an experienced mechanic then maybe you can understand the many machine parts, and repair the engine if there is anything that breaks.
Childrens Railway Station is an indoor playground on the Danish Railway Museum in Odense. The playground is inspired by Odense station in the 1960´s. Childrens Railway station was built in 2015 and inaugurated by the Danish Railway Museum’s patron HRH. Crown Prince Frederik.
In the passenger wagon there is room for one to sit with a friend and enjoy the lovely views of the landscape. Otherwise, you can sit here and have a rest while the train rumbles away. The playground calls for a large range of different play, everything from capture, race, hide and seek, store games and much more. The variety of scenarios gives the children a picture of the complexity of controlling train movements and supervising the process, so that there is no delays, and everyone will arrive safely.
